SPLIT CROSS
All the techniques in this issue are based on the split cross popularized by Chris Friedrich in 1988. The idea
here is to stop looking at it as a way of making a cross and start exploring the potential of the technique itself.
By doing this the possibilities are expanded. We start out with the traditional method of making a “cross” and
then expand into some interesting new ways to use the root technique.

IS EQUAL TO THE SIDES.
Splitting can cause metal splinters that are hard to
clean up in the center of the split. A way around
this is to begin with flat stock, and develop the split
pattern by forge welding. The result is pre-finished
surfaces and edges (chamfer all edges hot before
welding).
