Dear Ohio Traveler:
As a young boy growing up in Pennsylvania my family
would vacation on Lake Erie every summer, and when
we would cross into Ohio my Uncle George would
always say to me, “Johnny, we’ve just entered the
Promised Land.” That’s as true today as it was then.
Ohio is blessed with talented people who have created
incredible museums; visionaries who are preserving
natural areas and our
world’s wildlife; and
innovators working to
educate us and push the
boundaries of human
knowledge. Whether
you are from out-of-
state or a homegrown
Buckeye, I invite you
to see it all and be
fascinated.
Come experience the
Cincinnati Museum
Center’s new exhibit,
Cleopatra: The Search
for the Last Queen
of Egypt, in its only
Midwestern tour stop.
My daughters are already asking me to take them to
the new African Elephant Crossing habitat opening this
spring at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. And earlier
this year, the Columbus Museum of Art opened its
new Center for Creativity, an amazing hands-on area,
as part of a renovation that we celebrated during my
inauguration.
This year the Buckeye State kicks off events
commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War
and the completion of Ohio’s capitol, the Statehouse.
You can join in the commemoration by visiting the new
American Civil War Museum of Ohio opening in Tiffin.
Or, visit sites across the state that tell other important
historical stories, like those of Morgan’s Raiders, the
Fighting McCooks, Rutherford B. Hayes, Harriet Beecher
Stowe, John Rankin, John Parker, and Ulysses S. Grant.
