Read these actual observations from children in school in New York City. Then
answer the questions.

1. Sarah age 10: "Yes, I think there will be
discoveries of life on other planets.”
2. Lisa, age 11: “Maybe life on other planets
will be discovered. I would like to travel on a
spaceship to outer space and take my three
cats with me."
3. Ricky, age 9: "I think that if we all ride on bikes, we
can limit all the pollution in the world. And maybe build a
monorail to go around the whole city.”
4. Carlos, age 11: If New York City keeps going the way it is, things will be
worse . The city will be more crowded , with more traffic, worse air, more
litter , less open and green spaces. We need to take care of the
environment and recycle things so we have less garbage .
5. Sabrina, age 12: “In the year 2020, my city, New York, will be the ideal
living place. People will heat their homes in a different way, not from coal or
oil. They will use large solar panels to collect the sun's rays for their heating
needs. Many people will go to space camps to prepare for space living. In
short, the future will transform the way people live."
