ENGINEERING RELEASE NOTES

S3 NT 4.00 Driver Version 6.00.12

For Savage3D

Purpose

This is a bug fix release based off the tip sources.

Language Support

English only.

Software Requirements

This release is designed for Microsoft NT4.00 service pack 3.  The driver includes DirectX support at the level provided by NT4.00 service pack 3 (sometimes called DirectX 2.5).   The release is intended for testing with a 32K (no TV support) Savage3D BIOS version 09 (2.0B.09). The purpose of this release is to set the Hardware default refresh rate of 1600x1200 to 60Hz since we have pruned 48Hz mode.

·         This version supersedes version 6.00.11

Resolutions Supported

Resolution, color depth, and refresh rate support is dependent on the BIOS used with the driver.  The driver will specifically remove support for any color depth other than 8,16, or 32, however.

Applications/Utility Components

There are no applications/utility components included with this release.

Installation Instructions

Use the standard method for installing NT 4.0 drivers: install from Settings page of ControlPanel/DisplayProperties component. The installation disk for this release should include the following files:

 

·         VERSION.TXT

·         README.TXT

·         S3GX3.INF

·         S3MINI.SYS 

·         S3GX3.DLL

Known Limitations or Issues

No ICD support is included in this release.

No TV support is included in this release.

Resolved Issues

Set the Hardware default refresh rate of 1600x1200 to 60Hz since we have pruned 48Hz mode.

Operating System Anomaly

·         CR22353 – With IE 4.0 installed, switching from 8bpp to 16bpp modes, screen cannot refresh. This is an Operating system issue. Same issue has been reproduced on an ATI based system.

Test Recommendations

·         Target bug-fixes.

·         Run Short Regression and Full Regression all video modes

·         Run PC97 (note that case 12 Consume All Video problem is not yet resolved)

·         Test streams at all modes with ActiveMovie 2.0 using all the different size clips (AVI and MPG) you can find.  Test also with ActiveMovie 1.0.

·         Run WinBench 98

·         Run FOXBEAR and FLIPCUBE full-screen at all modes. Also run FOXBEAR in a window.

·         Run some popular applications, looking for bitmap corruption, etc. (Netscape, Internet Explorer, Word, etc.)

Build Label

Use Perforce to copy to your hard disk (“synch client to label”) all source code stamped “NT4.00_6.00.12”
