CHAPTER BY CHAPTER
Chapter One: Character offers a range of new
talent trees and starting occupations for both Strong
and Fast Heroes. Also introduced are prestige talent
trees, representing the unique abilities available to
multi-classed Strong and Fast Heroes.
Welcome to Modern Heroes: Martial Avengers, the
sourcebook for Strong and Fast Heroes in the D20
Modern roleplaying game. Within these pages you will
find a wealth of new material designed to enhance your
roleplaying experience. Underlying these new systems
and options is a consideration of both the classes
themselves and the dramatic themes they represent.
New systems do not make characters any more
powerful, but serve to expand and enhance the
roleplaying experience by making new options
available to players and GMs alike, to enable them to
realise their concepts for heroes or villains.
Chapter Two: Skills presents a selection of new skill
uses for the core skills of the Strong and Fast Hero
classes. Combat techniques provides a new skill and
accompanying system linked to character attributes, in
this case Strength and Dexterity, that enables
characters to train in and utilise a range of unique
combat styles. These techniques are designed to
integrate and balance fully with existing combat rules.
THEME
Let’s face it, class books aren’t know for staying true to
a particular theme, but this is where the Modern
Heroes line is different. At Malladin’s Gate we’ve been
really taken with D20 Modern, particularly the great
flexibility of the character classes. Hence instead of
concentrating each of the books in this line specifically
on a given class, we have grouped the classes
together thematically and then produce a book that
provides new classes, feats and systems that help
develop this theme, rather than concentrating on the
features of a given class.
Chapter Three: Feats introduces feats that both
expand upon and add to the feats available for all
characters, but which will be of particular use to Strong
and Fast Heroes and the themes these characters
explore.
Chapter Four: Combat presents new combat
options, the main province of Strong and Fast Heroes.
Included are rules for binding weapons in melee, a new
active defence system and expanded wrestling rules to
capture the flavour of both Greco-Roman style and
modern professional.
Chapter Five: Advanced and prestige classes
makes a whole range of iconic advanced classes
available for players to create the style of action hero
they desire. These new classes include options for
both single class and multi-class heroes. You will also
find prestige classes in this chapter to further specialise
your strong and fast heroes.
Martial Avengers concentrates on a high-action theme
inspired by the strong and fast heroes. In this book we
are mainly driven by the themes of pulp combat action,
high speed chases and athletic prowess. We’re
interested in the options that multiclassing fast and
strong heroes with other basic classes can present.
However, the strongest themes of the book are
inspired by combining the themes of the strong and
fast heroes themselves.
Chapter Six: Campagin Model – Extreme gives a
brief overview of a campaign setting, with some sample
antagonists and organisations alongside some new
rules to capture the flavour of the Action Movie genre.
Strong heroes are noted for being powerful, but usually
without much skill or grace. They are soldiers,
brawlers and labourers. They are often characterised
by a level of simplicity – not so much unintelligent as
straight-to-the-point. Fast heroes are stealthy, quick
and precise. They make a more professional kind of
combat class or a master thief or assassin. Fast
heroes also make good drivers and pilots. They are
characterised by their grace and accuracy, often

GMs alike should treat Martial Avengers as a toolkit,
taking what suits their characters and campaigns from
the wealth of new material on offer.
