Memeo Instant Backup | Quick Start Guide
Introduction
Memeo Instant Backup is a simple backup solution for a complex digital world. By automatically and continuously backing
up your valuable iles on your C drive, Memeo Instant Backup protects your data and allows you to restore all of your iles
if something happens to your computer. Your digital iles are important; protect them with Memeo Instant Backup.
Step 1: Create your free Memeo account
Step 2: Attach your storage device to your computer
Memeo Instant Backup allows you to back up the iles on your C drive to an external hard drive, USB lash drive, or
network device. Once attached, the software will detect the device(s) and default to the one with the most available
space. You may select a different storage device from the dropdown menu if desired.
After installation, Memeo Instant Backup will automatically scan your computer’s C drive and show a breakdown
of iles to be backed up in the bar chart. The amount of space required for the backup along with the amount of
available space on the selected storage device will be displayed in the storage meter.
Tip: If you do not want to back up all iles on your C drive, click Advanced Options to select speciic folders.

Step 3: Click Start Backup
You may click the Start Backup button at any time to begin the backup – even before scanning is
complete if you know there is enough available space on the storage device.

YOU’RE DONE! Memeo will automatically take care of the rest.
When inished, you will see a “Backup complete” message on the screen.
As new iles are added or existing iles are edited and saved, Memeo Instant Backup will automatically back up the
changed iles. Don’t worry if your storage device isn’t connected at the time. Memeo’s LifeAgent Technology will keep
track of any changes and back them up when the device is reconnected.

Restoring Your Data
If you end up in a situation where something happens to your computer or you need to restore your iles to
a different computer, follow these simple steps to restore your data.
If you still have Memeo Instant Backup installed with an active backup:
1. Attach your storage device.
2. Click the Restore button.
3. Select whether you want to restore all iles from the backup or just certain ones. Click Next.
4. If selecting speciic iles, check the boxes next to the iles you want to restore. Click Continue.
5. Choose to either restore your iles to their original location or to a new folder. Click Restore.
6. Your folders and iles will be restored to the selected destination.
Tip: If you see errors due to trying to restore iles to “read-only” folders in the original location, choose to restore your
iles to a different location instead of the original location. Typically, this happens when trying to restore other User’s
iles, so you can also choose to restore the iles when logged in as the other User on your computer.

If Memeo Instant Backup is not installed on
your computer:
1. Reinstall Memeo Instant Backup. You
can download it by logging into your
Memeo account online. ( http://me.memeo.com)
2. Do NOT click Start Backup to begin a
new backup.
3. Click the Restore button.
4. Select the backup from which you want to
restore. Click Next.
5. Choose to either restore your iles to their
original location or to a new folder. Click
Restore. Your folders and iles will be restored
to the selected destination.
6. If you restored your iles to the original location,
choose whether you would like to also
reactivate your backup. Click Done.

Additional Tips
How do I register Memeo Instant Backup?
If you are using a trial version of Memeo Instant Backup and have purchased a product key to register the product,
select “Register” under the Help menu and enter the 30-digit alphanumeric key into the spaces provided. Keep in mind
that the product key may contain the numbers 0 and 1 but will not contain the letters O and I.
What is the Memeo account used for?
Creating a Memeo account allows you to view information for Memeo Instant Backup online. You can view your backup
status, access your product key and software download link if you need to reinstall, and view purchase history. Having
a Memeo Account also means you will be kept up to date on new upgrades, new releases, and product help tools.
Simply click the “View Backup Info Online” button in the software or browse to http://me.memeo.com to login using your
Memeo account.
Are there any iles that are excluded from the backup?
The following iles are excluded from the backup: Program Files, temporary iles, log iles, virtual hard disk iles, and the
Windows System folder.
How can I turn the pop-up alerts off or on?
Memeo Instant Backup offers pop-up alerts for your daily backup summary and individual ile backup status. To turn
certain alerts off or on, go to the Settings menu and select “Show Alerts.” Alerts with a checkmark next to them are
turned on. You can simply click on an alert to turn it off or on.
How can I view the backed up iles on my storage device to conirm they are there?
You can click “Destination” at the right to open Windows Explorer and view your iles if you want to verify they were
backed up. However, it is important that you do not move or modify the iles on your storage device or there may be
issues restoring them in the future.
What happens when I encrypt my backup and need to restore my iles?
If you choose to encrypt your backup using 3DES encryption under Advanced Options, you will be asked to create a
password. You will only be able to restore your encrypted iles using Memeo Instant Backup and this password. Keep
in mind that Memeo has no way to retrieve your password, so you will not be able to restore your data if you forget your
password. Encrypted iles cannot be accessed directly on your storage device; you will only be able to access the iles
by restoring them.
