Mrs Paxton: Half-term holiday is starting next week.
How about going to Cornwall for a few
days?
Kelly: Great! Ewa, do you want to go there?
Ewa: Yes, I do but I don’t know anything about
Cornwall. Is it in Scotland?
Kelly: No, it’s in the south-west of England.
Aunt Caroline lives in St. Ives. We often
spend holidays there. She’s got the nicest
house in the town, near the sea.
Mum, are we going to St. Ives?
Mrs Paxton: Yes, you are. Aunt Caroline phoned
yesterday. She invited Ewa and you to
stay with her for a week.
Kelly: Look at these photos. I took them in
St. Ives last year.
Ewa: But there are palms in this photo!
Kelly: Cornwall is the warmest part of England.
You can often see palms there.
Ewa: It’s a nice place, I suppose.
Kelly: Nice? It’s the most fantastic place in the
world. There are many art galleries.
Painters come there from all over the
country because of the beautiful
landscapes.
Kelly: Look at this postcard – there’s a famous
nursery rhyme at the back. Can you
answer the riddle?
As I was going to St. Ives, I met a man
with seven wives.
Each wife had seven sacks, each sack had
seven cats.
Each cat had seven kits. Kits, cats, sacks
and wives.
How many were going to Saint Ives?
Ewa: Oh, dear! Where’s my calculator?
