TRIANGULAR LEAF SHAWL
Finished Size: Approximately 28" x 60" unblocked, 36" x 72” blocked
MATERIALS
Any size wool or mohair blend yarn desired, approximately
( sport weight -850 yards, fingering weight
– 1000 yards or lace weight – 1200 yards)
Circular needle size 9 (5.5 mm) for sport weight , size 8 (5.00 mm) for
Fingering weight and size 6 (4.00 mm) for lace weight or size preferred
for yarn you are working with
GAUGE: Make a gauge swatch to see which needle size gives you the best look for the
weight of yarn that you will be working with. Keep in mind that a loose knit will produce
a lacier shawl when blocked. Remember that when blocked Shawl will stretch 20-30%.
BODY
Cast on 15 sts loosely .
Chart Readers: For Rows 1-12, see Chart A.
Rows 1-2: Knit across.
Row 3: K2, place marker, YO, K5, YO, place marker, Kl, YO, K5, YO, place marker, K2: 19
sts.
Note: Loop a short piece of yarn around any stitch to mark Row 3 as right side.
Row 4 and ALL wrong side rows: K2, purl across to within one stitch of center marker, purl
center stitch, slip marker (abbreviated as SM), purl across to last marker, K2.
Note: When working wrong side rows, make sure that the edge markers stay 2 sts in from
the edge and that the center marker is always right after the center stitch.
Row 5: K2, SM, YO, K7, YO, SM, K1, YO, K7, YO, SM, K2: 23 sts.
Row 7: K2, SM, YO, Kl, YO, K2, SK2P, K2, YO, Kl, YO, SM, Kl, YO, Kl, YO, K2,
SK2P, K2, YO, Kl, YO, SM, K2: 27 sts.
Row 9: K2, SM, YO, K3, YO, Kl, SK2P, Kl, YO, K3, YO, SM, Kl, YO, K3, YO, Kl
SK2P, Kl, YO, K3, YO, SM, K2: 31 sts.
Row 11: K2, SM, YO, K5, YO, SK2P, YO, K5, YO, SM, Kl, YO, K5, YO, SK2P, YO,
K5, YO, SM, K2: 35 sts.

Row 13: K2, SM, YO, knit across to marker, YO, SM, Kl, YO, knit across to next
marker, YO, SM, K2: 39 sts.
Row 15: K2, SM, YO, Kl, YO, (K2, SK2P, K2, YO, Kl, YO) across to marker, SM, Kl,
YO, Kl, YO, (K2, SK2P, K2, YO, Kl, YO) across to marker, SM, K2: 43 sts.
Row 17: K2, SM, YO, K3, YO, (Kl, SK2P, Kl, YO, K3, YO) across to next marker, SM,
Kl, YO, K3, YO, (Kl, SK2P, Kl, YO, K3, YO) across to next marker, SM, K2: 47 sts.
Row 19: K2, SM, YO, K5, YO, (SK2P, YO, K5, YO) across to next marker, SM, Kl,
YO, K5, YO, (SK2P, YO, K5, YO) across to next marker, SM, K2: 51 sts.
Repeat Rows 13-20 for pattern until Shawl is 3” less than unblocked size, ending by
working pattern Row 20.
Note: Remember that when blocked Shawl will stretch approximately 20-30%.

EDGING
Chart Readers: For Edging Rows 1 and 2, see Chart D.
Remove center marker when working next row.
Row 1: K2, SM , YO, K2, SK2P, K2, YO, (K1, YO, K2, SK2P, K2, YO) across to last 2
sts, K2.
Row 2: K2, purl across to last 2 sts, K2.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for 3”, ending by working Row 2.
Next Row: K2, YO, K7, (YO, K1, YO, K7, YO) across to last 2 sts, K2.
Last Row: K2, purl across to last 2 sts, K2.
Bind off all sts as follows: K2, slip left needle into front of the 2 sts on right needle, knit
these 2 sts together through back loop (K2 tog tbl) , * K1, slip left needle into front of
the 2 sts on right needle, K2 tog tbl ; repeat from * across.

#17 No stitch
#15 Purl on wrong side rows
# 13 Knit on wrong side rows
#11 SK2P – slip 1 stitch as if to knit, K2 tog and pass slipped stitch over the
K2 tog
#9 Center Stitch
#7 YO – yarn over
#5 SSK – Slip 2 stitches separately as if to knit , then insert left needle into
front of 2 sts and K2 tog.

Working from right to left on right side rows and left to right on wrong side rows, work
across Chart A.
Charts B & C
On right side rows, work from right to left across Chart C and then work across Chart B.
On wrong side rows, work from left to right across Chart B and then work across Chart C.

Repeat Repeat
Work across edge stitches on Chart; repeat stitches in shaded area for pattern; work across center
stitches of next Chart; repeat stitches in shaded area for pattern; ending with edge stitches.
Chart D
Working from right to left on right side rows and left to right on wrong side rows, work
across Chart D.
Repeat
Work edge stitches then repeat stitches in shaded area for pattern, ending with edge stitches.
FINISHING Weave in yarn ends. Block shawl to desired blocked
