1990: Inside DEC WRL, I had
CSNET, BarrNet, AlterNet as
my transit providers
So, I gave them a DELNI to
exchange traffic over
1993: When I left DEC, this
unofficial IX was discovered
by the auditors

1994/1995: Hired back as a
consultant to commercialize
“DIX” which became “PAIX”

Modern History
1996-1997: DEC hires Al Avery and Jay Adelson to
run PAIX, who then leave to found Equinix
1998-1999: DEC acquired by Compaq, who sells
PAIX to Abovenet, who is acquired by MFN
2000-2001: MFN acquires my ISP company (MIBH),
appoints me President of the PAIX business unit
2002: MFN enters bankruptcy, later emerges as
AboveNet, having sold PAIX to Switch and Data
2009-2010: Switch and Data acquired by Equinix
1993-2010-beyond: F-Root first/always at PAIX
