In this video, we are looking at the consonants ㅅ, ㅂ, ㅈ, ㄹ,
and the vowels ㅐ, ㅔ, ㅓ, ㅡ.
has the sound value of [s].
has the sound value of [b].
has the sound value of [ j] or [z]. It’s stronger than the English [ j] but less strong as [z].
has the sound value of somewhere between [r] and [l]. It’s stiffer than [r] but softer than [l].
has the sound value of [ae/e].
[sae] [bae] [ jae] [rae] [ae]
has the same sound value as . These two vowels used to have different sounds but not
any longer.
is a vowel that is difficult to be romanized correctly, but it’s usually romanized as [eo]. It has
the sound value similar to ‘ea’ in ‘earth’, ‘a’ in ‘an’, ‘i’ in ‘girl’, or ‘u’ in ‘understand’.
