OVERVIEW
Introduction
Building a Dartboard Cabinet can be a great way to familiarize yourself with your Skil router. You’ll also get a
great Dartboard Cabinet in the process! Before starting the project, it’s a good idea to measure your
dartboard to get the general dimensions for the cabinet, as well as measuring the area in which the
dartboard will be mounted. Before gathering your supplies, you will need to determine the width, height and
depth of your custom cabinet.
Beginner - about 18 hours
Intermediate - about 12 hours
Advanced - about 6 hours
STEPS
1. You will first construct the cabinet.
Using your table saw, cut the back panel of the cabinet and the four
frame pieces.

2. Using your router fitted with a rabbet bit, rout a lip on the back inside
edge of each of the four frame pieces to fit the back panel. Also, rout
dados on the lower outside edge of the top frame piece and on the
upper outside edge of the bottom frame piece. Using your palm sander,
sand each piece smooth.
3. Glue the side top and bottom pieces together. Place the back panel with
the frame, so that the back panel fits within the channels. Glue the back
panel into place, and staple into the side pieces. Touch up the cabinet
with your palm sander.
4. From your decorative accent wood, use your table saw to cut the top
and bottom accent pieces, as well as two smaller pieces that will be
used for dart storage.
5. Using your router fitted with a chamfer bit, cut a 45º chamfer on all
four sides of each of the pieces.
6. Drill holes in the smaller pieces to hold darts.
7. After sanding the pieces smooth, glue and screw the top, bottom and
dart storage pieces to the cabinet.

8. Next, you will construct the raised-panel cabinet doors.
Using your table saw, cut the door panels and 4 frame pieces to size.
Sand each piece smooth.
9. After cutting the frame pieces, use your router fitted with a stile and rail
bit set to rout a groove in each piece, and a tenon on the ends of the
rails.
10. Set the panels into the frame pieces and glue each frame together, only
gluing the rails and stiles, not gluing the panels within the frame.
11. After the glue has dried on the cabinet doors, varnish each piece.
Between each coat, sand the pieces with a fine, steel wool to give the
cabinet a smooth finish.
12. Using your jig saw with a metal cutting blade, cut the piano hinges to
the correct length. File the sharp burrs from the cut ends.

13. Attach the doors with the piano hinges. To complete the dartboard
cabinet, secure the magnets to each of the doors with wood screws.
Now that your dartboard cabinet has been successfully completed,
screw the dartboard to the wall through the back panel, and start
playing!
