The Weaver’s Knot is also known as the sheet wind by sailors. When used in thread
instead of rope, it is the smallest and strongest knot I have ever used. Until I saw it side
by side with the Tailor’s Knot I didn’t believe it. I find this knot to be perfect for joining
threads in seed-bead pieces.
You can use glue or not as you prefer. If you make the knot close to the piece so that it
doesn’t get pulled on a lot before it settles into your piece then you don’t need glue.
Please don’t use nail polish. It will dry brittle, discolor your piece and flake off with
wear. If you want the added security of glue, use professional glue such as G-S Hypo
Cement.
1. Loop new thread
(violet) over old
(green).
2. Pass the new thread
back under the old thread
and over itself in forming
a loop.
3. Bring the tail of
the old thread down
through the loop you
just formed.
4. Pull gently while
pinching the two threads
of new thread together
and the two threads of old
thread together. DO NOT
JERK. This will form
into two interlocking
loops. If formed properly
this will be very tight and
secure.
