then inc 1 st 9 times, AT SAME TIME, when 10
rows have been completed, shape side edge same
as for back. When all shaping has been complet-
ed, work even on 41 (45, 49, 53, 57) sts until
piece measures same length as back to underarm,
then shape armhole at side edge same as for
back—28 (32, 36, 40, 44) sts. Work even until
armhole measures 4¾(5, 5¼, 5¾, 6¼)"/12 (12.5,
13.5, 14.5, 16)cm. Shape neck as foll: Next
row (WS) P9 (10, 12, 14, 15) sts, place these sts
on holder for left front neck, k to end. Dec 1 st at
neck edge every row 3 times; then every other
row 1 time—15 (18, 20, 22, 25) sts. Work even
until piece measures same length as back to
shoulder, then shape shoulder same as for back.
RIGHT FRONT
Work same as for left front, rev all shaping.

With smaller needles, cast on 50 (50, 54, 58, 62)
sts. Work in rib pat for 3¼"/8cm. Change to larger
needles. Next row (RS ) K, inc 42 (46, 46, 46, 46)

114) sts. Work even until piece measures
6½"/16.5cm from beg. Shape armholes as foll:
Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows; then 2 sts at
beg of foll 2 rows; then 1 st at beg of foll 16
rows—56 (64, 72, 80, 88) sts. Work even until

FINISHING
Block pieces to measurements. Sew shoulder
seams.
Collar With RS facing and circular needle k9 (10,
12, 14, 15) sts from right front holder, pick up 8
sts along right front neck edge, 2 sts along right
back neck edge, k22 (24, 28, 32, 34) sts from
back neck holder, pick up 2 sts along left back
neck edge, 8 sts along left front neck edge, k9
(10, 12, 14, 15) sts from left front holder—60
(64, 72, 80, 84) sts. Beg with a p row, work in St
st for 5"/12.5cm. Bind off. Set in sleeves, easing
fullness at shoulders. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Outer band With RS facing and circular needle,
pick up 75 (77, 79, 81, 83) sts along left side
edge of collar and straight edge of left front, 44
(46, 48, 50, 52) sts along curved edge, 14 (16, 18,
20, 22) sts along bottom edge of left front, 74
(82, 90, 98, 106) sts along bottom edge of back,
14 (16, 18, 20, 22) sts along bottom edge of right
front, 44 (46, 48, 50, 52) sts along curved edge,
75 (77, 79, 81, 83) sts along straight edge of right
front and right side edge of collar—340 (360,
380, 400, 420) sts. Do not join. Beg with a k row
and working back and forth using both circular
needles, cont in rev St st for 6 rows. Bind off
loosely. Fold collar half to WS and sew in place.
Button cover Assemble button foll package in-
structions. With crochet hook, ch 5. Join ch with a
sl st forming a ring. Rnd 1 Ch 1, work 12 sc in
ring. Do not join. Mark last st made with the safe-
ty pin. You will be working in a spiral marking the
last st made with the safety pin to indicate end of
rnd. Rnd 2 [Work 2 sc in next st] 12 times—24
sc. Rnd 3 Sc in each st around. Rnd 4 Rep rnd
2—48 sc. Rnd 5 Rep rnd 3. Rnd 6 [Sc2tog] 6
times, insert button, [sc2tog] 6 times—24 sc. Rnd
7 [Sc2tog] 6 times—12 sc. Cut yarn leaving a
long tail. Thread tail in tapestry needle, then sew
running stitches around opening. Pull tail to gath-
er opening closed; fasten off securely.
Button loop With crochet hook and 2 strands of
yarn held tog, ch 15. Fasten off leaving a long tail.
Using tails, sew lp to right front neck edge. Sew
button to left front to correspond to lp.
