1. Description
This tool supports updating your mobile phone software using the Siemens 3G Swup FU application.
Application require a USB cable connection.
2. Preconditions
PC operating system Windows 2000 or Windows XP
USB cable.
3. Delivery Content
3GSwupFU installer, for installing and removing the 3GSwupFU, including USB drivers and QPST
Server.
Example of the installer name:

4. Using the packet
Important notes:
1. Before launching the packet please make sure that all applications using COM/USB
connections are turned off. It is especially important in case of applications that are
scanning COM/USB ports, searching for connected devices. Such applications can
interrupt connection with a mobile. Please be aware that in case of some applications
(like Mobile Phone Manager) simple switching off is not sufficient. MPM after closing
leaves some additional processes working in the operating system. To make sure that
the packet will work in the correct way all these processes need to be disabled.
List of processes of the MPM that should be killed from the task list:
· PHONES~4.exe
· SCONTA~1.exe
· SPHONE~1.exe
· SCfgSrv.exe
· DESPROXY.exe
2. In case of using Windows 2000 please make sure that there is Service Pack 4.0 in your
operation system installed.
3. It is not possible to upload the software version 1.1 or later to the mobile with a
software version 0.8 or older, using this packet. If needed, such operation can be
performed by developer’s version of the 3GSwup, but it needs steps that are not
included in friendly user delivery.
4. It is strongly recommended to avoid using docking stations for Software Download.
During installation of the packet, shortcut on the desktop will be created. Packet for uploading the
software should be launched using that shortcut.
5. Graphical User Interface of the 3GSwupFU application
Upon launching 3GSwupFU the following GUI will be shown.

The tool will automatically look for a connected device on the USB ports. Status will change from
“Disconnected” via “Connecting ...” to “Connected”. If after one or two minutes phone will not be
recognized, please make sure that phone is on and COM/USB cable is connected in the proper way. If
tool still was not able to recognize the phone, please take off the COM/USB cable and plug it in again.
Please remember that you can always choose the phone by clicking “Change Port” button and
selecting the COM/USB port from the list.
Above the status user can read the number of the COM port on which mobile was found.
Additionally user can read version of the software that is currently in the mobile and version of the
software that is going to be loaded to the mobile.
Possible actions:
- user can see the this documentation in .pdf format by clicking “Help” button,
- user can see the about window by clicking “About” button,
- user can change automatically chosen port by clicking “Change Port” button and selecting
new port from the list of possible ports,
- user can close the application by clicking “Close” button,
- user can start the download process by clicking the “Download” button,
- user can perform emergency download by checking “Emergency download” checkbox and
selecting the COM port from the list of possible COM ports. Emergency download is a
download operation without changing mobile mode into download. It can be performed if
during previous download any problems interrupted downloading the amss file. Mobile in such
case should be by default in download mode because only bootloaders should be active.

6. Updating the Software
Note: It appears that the update process runs more stable if you reboot your device before
starting the update process. It is therefore recommended to reset the phone before launching
3GSwup.
1. Make sure that your battery is charged at least 25%
2. Launch packet and start via it 3GSwup application and you will see the GUI as shown in 1:

3. Wait, until “Connected” message is shown
a. Note: the application will look for a connected mobile automatically
b. If it does not find any port then user can choose it manually by click on “Change Port”
