AVOX CHOIR Notes

The following notes and tips will help you get the most out of AVOX CHOIR.  Please check them out before beginning your exploration of CHOIR.

Setting Buffer Size

If your host application allows setting of the audio buffer size, for best performance we recommend setting the buffer to at least 256 samples.

Monitoring CPU Performance

CHOIR requires a fair amount of CPU power (particularly at larger choir sizes). If your host application provides a CPU performance meter, we recommend that you keep it visible so that you will have warning if you're getting yourself in trouble (CPU wise, at least).

Resetting Controls to Default Values

The manual specifies that you must Command (Mac)/Control (PC) click a slider handle to reset it to its default value. While this is accurate in most cases, please note that:

In Pro Tools you must Option (Mac)/Alt (PC) click a slider handle to reset it to its default value.

Since this behavior is controlled by each host, it is possible that your host may support a different key modifier combination (or none at all). This should be easy to ascertain simply by trying the various combinations.

Stereo

Don't even think of using CHOIR with a mono output. Yes, you can do it, but it sounds so great in stereo, we can't think of a reason why you'd want to.

Choir Size

As you specify more voices with the Choir Size control, CHOIR will use progressively more CPU power. 32 voices in particular can really suck it up. Be sure to watch your CPU usage meter (if available) and adjust the choir size accordingly.

Mono -> Stereo Version in Pro Tools TDM

At the time of AVOX's release (8/05), Pro Tools TDM does not support mono-to-stereo versions of RTAS plug-ins. According to Digidesign, the forthcoming release of Pro Tools 7 TDM will support mono-to-stereo versions of RTAS plug-ins. In the meantime, to use CHOIR with stereo output on a mono vocal:

              1. Create a new mono audio track and copy and paste your mono vocal to this new track.

              2. Create a new stereo audio track.

              3. Highlight the two mono tracks with your vocal and drag or paste them both into the new stereo track.

              4. Assign CHOIR to the stereo track and you're ready to go.

Bypass in Digital Performer

There is a known issue when using the mono-to-stereo version of CHOIR in Digital Performer. Engaging Bypass will cause the original audio to appear on the left channel only. We are looking into this issue for correction in a future update.

Stereo Spread Control in the Audio Units Mono Version

There is a known issue where the Stereo Spread control is not visually disabled in the Audio Units mono version of CHOIR. While you can move the control, they it have no effect on the output of CHOIR.

Have Fun!
