Subjects. We distinguish obligatory subjects, i.e. necessary for graduation. Their completion (called credit or pass) is necessary for taking final examination. Optional subjects / Elective subjects have further extending and partly specializing function. To complete a course the student needs a credit or a grade in examination.

Students who did not complete requirements for registration to the higher year of study (those, who do not complete 1 or more subjects) may apply for repetition of the year in a written form.

When repeating the year, students are required to complete all duties and pass all examinations and credits in all subjects. The second repetition of the same year of study is often not permitted, unless students repeat the year for health reasons.

As soon as the registration/enrolment procedure has been completed, the applicant becomes a student of the faculty.

Registration to the higher year of study. Students register to the higher year of study if they completed all duties given in the curriculum of the degree program and a particular year of study.

Matriculation oath at matriculation is the public confirmation of students’ rights and duties. Students’ absence at matriculation without a proper apology is considered as a decision to leave the study in many Universities!

Academic year is divided into the winter semester, summer semester and a period of holidays. The beginning of academic year and terms of holidays are announced by the Rector at the beginning of the academic year.

Basic forms of study (instruction) are: lectures, seminars, tutorials, courses, clinical practice and work placement. Students participate in all forms of instruction (lectures, seminars, practicals, clinical and work placements) related to the academic year the students are registered in. Students are allowed to attend all theoretical lectures, despite they are included in the curriculum of the academic year they are not registered in.

A missing signature will be considered as a proof that subject requirements were not completed.

Admission requirements are as follows: entrance examination (oral or written), submission of required documents: transcripts of secondary school grades and courses, certificate of graduation from a secondary school, curriculum vitae.

Examples of subjects of the curriculum (program of study) and Syllabus(course): Anatomy, Pathology, Histology, Embryology.

Departments have the right not to open instruction of an optional subject if the number of applicants is too low. Instruction is led by University employees of the faculty on the basis of accreditation by the dean. Students of postgraduate, extra-mural study or full-time study can be also accredited to lead tutorials. Each teacher who leads instruction has to announce hours of consultation (duty hours) when he /she is available for students.

A instructor’s signature means completion of a course or taken and passed examination.

Postgraduate (Ph.D.) programs lead to obtaining a higher academic degree of a Doctor of Philosophy. An individual form of study aims at the defence of dissertation. Maximum length of this study is 7 years. A condition for admission to postgraduate study is obtaining the degree of a Master.
