Instructions for Making the Card

With the help of the heart shaped cutout draw an outline of the heart on the card. Take the lawn fabric piece and iron it before cutting a length 20 mm bigger than the outline of the heart shape. Place it face down. Next, take the Dacron and cut it to the same length as the periphery of the heart shape. Place the Dacron on the lawn fabric piece, and place the heart shape over the Dacron.

On the pink paper, draw seven circles using a coin. Starting from the edge, cut each circle into a spiral going towards the center, as shown in the above picture. With the help of the quilling tool, starting from the cut edge, start rolling, and glue the end. You have just created the seven rose flower centers. Next, stick the rose flower centers onto a small piece of paper.

Paper-punch forty-two holes in the pink sheet for the seven roses. These circles will form the petals of the roses. Stick six circles around each spiraled rose-flower center. You will use up all the forty-two circles on the seven roses. When the glue dries cut off the paper in the background.

Now take the blue paper for making eleven bellflowers. Cut the paper into eighths of the length. Roll a strip onto the quilling tool forming a tight coil, and glue the end.

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/heartsflowers/image017.jpg

Remove the tight coil and push the center out gently with the handle of the tool. Apply glue to the hollow portion of the bellflower so that it retains its shape.

You may now make some leaves. Take the gold edged green paper. Cut it into quarter lengths. With the help of the quilling tool, form a coil. Remove it from the tool and drop it on the work board, so that it uncoils. Glue the end. Pinch the two ends to form the shape of a leaf. Make seven such leaves.

To form some stems, take the plain green paper, hold one end and wind it diagonally around a fine knitting needle.

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/heartsflowers/image024.jpg

When you have reached the requisite length, pull the needle out. Your fancy spiral stem is ready.

You may gather all the items you have prepared and start placing them in position and sticking with glue, using the two cards as guide. Take the silver ribbon, form a bow, and fix it with glue on

If you wish to add a border to the card, crimp the blue strip of paper with the crimp tool. Draw a line some distance from the edge along the outline of the card. Place the crimped strip of blue over the drawn pencil line to hide it, and paste it in place. Once you have known the technique, you can use your imagination to design various cards for many different occasions.

Materials Needed

1.      2 mm quilling paper – 6 sheets purple, 3 sheets gold-edged pale green, 4 sheets yellow, 1 sheet red, 3 sheets brown, and 3 sheets medium green

2.      3 mm quilling paper – 3 sheets gold-edged cream

3.      paper-hole punch

4.      craft knife

5.      quilling tool

6.      cutting board

7.      tracing paper 16 cm x 21 cm

8.      gold paint/ink

9.      fine paint brush

10.  paper motif

11.  a card mount

Instructions for Making the Card

Take the tracing paper and place it atop the diagram. Align the top left of the tracing paper with that of the diagram. With a sharp pencil, trace the diagram. Next, open the card mount face up and tape it on the cutting board to keep it steady.

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/crimpedvalentine/image028.jpg

Place the tracing paper over the right fold, aligning the top left with the top left of the crease. Retrace the drawing with the help of a hard pencil or an embossing tool. The idea is to indent the face of the card with the design. After removing the tracing, cut along the out line of the design with the help of a sharp knife. Now place the slip-sheet inside the card and draw along the shaped edge. Once done, remove it from the card, and cut through to form the shape.

Next, take the gold paper, crimp it, and stick it around the outer edge of the indented heart. Now take the yellow paper, crimp it, and glue it over all the edges of the face of the card, except the part of the heart already covered by the gold paper. Next, you may crimp the medium green paper, curl it not so tight, and follow the indented lines. Glue them on the card. Take the brown paper and treat it similarly.

On the red paper, draw 15 circles using a coin. Starting from the edge, cut each circle into a spiral going towards the center, as shown in the above picture. With the help of the quilling tool, starting from the cut edge, start rolling, and glue the end. You have just created rose flower centers. Next, stick each rose-flower center onto a small piece of paper.

Paper-punch 90 holes in the red sheet for fifteen roses. These circles will form the petals of the roses. Stick six circles around each spiraled rose-flower center. You will use up all the 90 circles on the 15 roses. When the glue dries cut off the paper in the background.

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/crimpedvalentine/image034.jpg

Take the pale green paper and divide the three strips into five pieces each to form 15 leaves. Form a loose coil, and stick the end with glue. When dry, pinch both the ends to form shape of the leaf, as shown above.

Now, take the cream paper, with the help of the quilling tool wind tightly rolled pegs, and glue the end. Use different lengths of paper to vary the size of the pegs. You may make three pegs from 8 cm lengths, three from 6 cm lengths, and three each from 4.5 cm and 3 cm lengths.

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/crimpedvalentine/image036.jpg

Using the above technique, form more tight pegs from the purple paper. Divide each strip into 8 pieces, and make 66 tight pegs. From the yellow paper, make 11 pegs. Glue six purple pegs around each yellow peg to form eleven forget-me-nots.

Materials Needed

1.      3 mm quilling paper white and olive green in color

2.      some scraps of pink and red paper

3.      pair of scissors

4.      quilling tool

5.      tweezers

6.      heart-shaped paper punch

7.      gray paper 11 cm x 16 cm

8.      craft adhesive

9.      a white card mount

Instructions for Making the Card

Make ten roses following the procedure given here. Take the heart-shaped paper punch and punch out three hearts from the red paper.

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/autumnroses/image042.jpg

Now, take the scissors and snip each heart shape from the bottom point to approximately half-way up, as shown in the above illustration. Apply a bit of glue to one side of the snipped half, and push both ends in the opposite direction so that they overlap each other. Hold in that position for a while until glued.

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/autumnroses/image044.jpg

Stick the three hearts together at the base with glue (as shown above).

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/autumnroses/image046.jpg

Take the red paper and cut a 2 cm square. Snip off the corners and cut a spiral from any of the edges going into the center (as shown above).

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/autumnroses/image048.jpg

Wind the spiral around the quilling tool and stick its end with glue. Remove the spiral from the tool and hold the glued part so that it does not uncoil. Next, glue the spiral to the center of the pink flower.

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/autumnroses/image050.jpg

Next, taking the quilling tool, make rolls (14 in number) from the white quilling paper, and glue the end to prevent them from uncoiling. They serve as little pegs.

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/autumnroses/image052.jpg

Take the green paper, roll a length into a loose coil and stick the end with glue. Pinch one of the ends to form dewdrops (as shown above). Make four such dewdrops.

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/autumnroses/image054.jpg

Roll a loose coil with the green paper and stick the end with glue. Pinch the coil at both ends and push them together to create a shape resembling a leaf. Make two of these shapes. Next, make two similar shapes of slightly larger size to create larger leaves, as shown in the above illustration. Make another loose coil of similar length and do not shape it.

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/autumnroses/image056.jpg

Take two complete lengths of green paper and glue them to form a thick strip.

Card Arrangement

To form a bouquet, place the pieces on the card. Arrange the three flowers placing them wider on the centerline, as shown in the illustration below.

http://www.celebrating-valentinesday.com/images/crafts/cardmaking/autumnroses/image057.jpg

Now place the rest of the flowers, leaves and pegs as shown. Once you are satisfied with the layout, glue the pieces on the card, handling them with tweezers. Now, take the thick strip you earlier glued together, cut a 5 - 6 cm length and fold in half to form a ‘V’. Glue it on the card in the space as shown in the illustration.

Cut six more strips 4 - 5 cm long. Clip one of the ends to form an angle. Curve them slightly and fix them on the card as shown.

You can use your own color scheme, design and imagination to create as many different cards as you can.
