Fovea Pro 4.0 Read Me First
Requirements
FoveaPro 4 requires Adobe Photoshop 7.0, CS, or CS2, or other host programs
that support Photoshop plug-ins (e.g., Photoshop Elements, Paint Shop Pro,
Graphic Converter, etc.; note that many other programs that support Photoshop
plugins and file types do not handle 16 bit images, but reduce them to 8 bits per
channel). If you do not have Photoshop, you can download the tryout version
(which will run for three weeks) from:

Installation
Run the " Mac FP4 Installer " or “ PC FP4 Installer.exe ” program to install the
plug-ins. This will ask you to locate the folder in which to place the plug-in files.
Normally this will be the plug-in folder belonging to Photoshop, or whatever
host program you are using. Some programs allow you to select any folder
location (e.g., Photoshop using the Preferences menu) while others require the
plug-ins to be loaded into a dedicated folder. See your program’s manual, for
additional information. Locate the folder in which to place the files and click OK.
The installer will do the rest. Note that you can install the plug-ins in a temporary
location and then drag them to the final location later, but you can NOT install
them on one machine and subsequently copy them to another computer.
If you are installing an upgrade to a previous version of Fovea Pro or The Image
Processing Tool Kit, you should delete the old plugins first . If you do not, it
will result in both sets of plug-ins appearing in the menu. The default installation
of Fovea Pro and Image Processing Tool Kit plug-ins places them in a single
folder. If they have been moved, it is necessary to locate and manually remove
them beforehand. Different versions of the software were created on different
dates, but if you search for files of type '8BFM' (Mac) or *.8bf (Windows), you
should be able to find all of the Photoshop plug-ins on your machine and sort
them by date. For any given package (except for downloaded updates) the
modification dates of plugins in previous releases will be very close together.
After installing the software, run your host program (e.g., Photoshop). Open any
image or create a new one, and select Filter->IP*Utilities->Preferences . Enter
the serial number that came with your CD into the dialog box provided and click
OK. If your CD is a demo copy, and came without a serial number, the plug-ins
will be fully functional for three weeks. After that, you must obtain a serial
number from Reindeer Graphics and enter it for them to function.
Support Materials
The following support materials may optionally be copied to your hard disk but
can also be accessed directly from the CD, and are not required to install or use
the programs.
Tutorial.pdf is an Acrobat file that illustrates procedures used for image
processing and analysis, with step-by-step instructions and results, using
Photoshop with the Fovea Pro plug-ins and example images that are provided
on the CD. It is organized by task, corresponding to the typical order of
procedures that are used in workflow for the acquisition, processing, and
measurement of images. The organization also corresponds to the sequence of
topics covered in J. C. Russ (2002) “The Image Processing Handbook,” CRC
Press, and to the sequence of lectures and lab exercises which Dr. Russ uses in
teaching workshops.
Manual.pdf is an Acrobat file that describes the individual plug-ins in Fovea Pro,
organized by their menu and submenu arrangement.
Images is a folder containing example images used in the tutorial.
Support is a folder containing subfolders with various sets of files that may be
useful for some of the Photoshop or Fovea Pro functions. These include:
Actions (the example actions from the tutorial; actions created with a
previous version of FoveaPro or IPTK will need to be re-recorded)
Calib (examples of calibration files that correspond to several images)
CLUTs (color look-up tables for pseudocolor display)
Density (examples of density calibration files that correspond to several
images)
Kernels (sets of weight values that perform various filtering operations)
Recipes (examples of recipe files for feature classification)
Scripts (the example scripts from the tutorial; these may be copied to your
Presets/Scripts folder)
