DOMINO Blocking
Ok, you often hear coaches talking about DOMINO calls and how they teach sab or down blocking when the linemen are told to block "domino"...well, heres my version... consider that we are running "ray 26 power" (wyatts tight rip 88 superpower) or markhams (36 pitch)...whatever you want to call it, our domino call means...
D= downO= ONM= THE MANI= INSIDE...N= IF NO ONE THERE...0= BLOCK MAN ON
so, what happens is you get down blocks against all defenses that present covered adjacent offensive linemen, but still get double teams when they dont present that look. Ie, lets take a 7-1 defense with "TNT" inside and a pair of 7 tech dts and 8 tech des...pretty typical kind of 7 diamond. anyhow...
-----------F---C-------M--------C-E---T--G--N--G---T---E----O-O-O-X-O-O-O--O---------O-------O------------O
THE DOMINO CALL WOULD BE MADE BY THE CENTER WHEN HE FEELS HE NEEDS TO BLOCK BACK BECAUSE HE HAS BOTH A MAN ON AND A MAN AWAY. OR COULD BE MADE BY ANY LINEMEN INSIDE THE POA WHO IS COVERED AND ALSO HAS A MAN TO HIS INSIDE. in the above example, the domino rules would be applied, each man would think "down on man inside"...and stop, the center blocks back on the dg, the playside g blocks down on teh nose, the playside tackle blocks down on the dg....BUT!!!! the playside te says "domi" and has no one to his inside...so he completes the thought "no" ..."noone there, block on" and he post blocks the 7 tech for a crushing double team with the wing. we STILL HAVE THE DOUBLE TEAM!
*another example, take a 44 stack, pair of two techs and pair of 6 techs,...everyone applies their rule, we still have double team on the playside two tech and playside 6...
*another example, take a 62 with two tech, 4 tech and 8 tech on each side. we get double on playside two, we get down block on the playside 4.
*another example, take the gam, we get down blocks across the 4 bear crawlers and a double team on the olber head up on the te
etc etc etc
SO FOR OUR PURPOSES, "DOMINO" DOESNT JUST MEAN SAB, WE MIGHT STILL GET OUR DOUBLE TEAM.
**truth be told, "D.O" is the only thing you have to teach the kids. its as simple as "down, on"
