Order the ring from your hardware manufacturer.
Adjust the tyre pressure (see MR of the vehicle
concerned, 35A, Wheels and tyres ).
I - PREREQUISITES FOR WHEEL BALANCING
Perform a road test of at least 1.2 miles (2 km) be-
fore the wheel balancing operation to prevent a flat
spot forming on the tread when the vehicle is statio-
nary.
Wheel balancing is a measurement operation.
Several conditions must be met to achieve a reliable
result in a single operation.
After the road test:
The wheel balancer must be installed in accordance
with the manufacturer's instructions.
- raise the vehicle immediately,
- leave the four wheels hanging free,
It is essential that the machine is recalibrated at the
intervals specified by the manufacturer.
- release the parking brake.
Never grease the threaded shaft.
Check the condition of the supports, centring com-
ponents and mountings.
Replace any faulty parts (see manufacturer's ins-
tructions).
The wheel and the wheel balancer must be clean.
Driver's complaint
If the wheels are not correctly balanced this causes
the steering wheel and/or the vehicle floor to vibrate.
The vibrations occur between 54 mph (90 km/h)
and 90 mph (150 km/h) .

II - WHEEL REMOVAL AND WHEEL BALANCING
Place the vehicle on a two-post lift immediately after
the road test (see MR of the vehicle concerned,
02, Lifting equipment ).
Loosen the wheel bolts.
Raise the vehicle.
Release the parking brake.
Check that the wheels are not damaged due to acci-
dental impacts (if they are, replace the damaged
components),
Position the wheel valves at the top.
Fit tool pedal press .
Remove:
- the wheel bolts,
- the wheel.

Always clean the bearing surfaces of the wheel and
the disc (or drum).
To reproduce the exact vehicle wheel assembly, it is
essential to fit a ring ( 1 ) with a diameter of 60 mm on
the wheel balancer.
Make sure that the wheel balancer bearing surface
and all the centring equipment (ring, thrust plate,
etc.) are kept clean.
There are 3 types of weights:
Try not to scratch the (alloy) wheel rim with the
wheel tightening device.

The wheel is fitted on the wheel balancer as follows:

In certain countries it is prohibited to use lead wei-
ghts. Instead, ZAMAK weights are recommended.

-( 8 ) wheel tightening device (certain alloy wheel
rims need a device 200 mm in diameter to ensure
correct tightening),
-( 9 ) exterior plane of the wheel.

Place the valve at the top of the wheel balancer,
then carry out the tightening procedure.
Remove any stones which may be jammed in the
tyre treads.
Enter the parameters for the wheel into the wheel
balancer device.
Operate the wheel balancer and check the wheel
balance, which should be 0 g on each plane of the
wheel.
If this is not the case, remove the old balancing wei-
ghts and repeat the wheel balancer procedure,
checking that the wheel balance equals 0 on each
wheel plane.

Pretighten the wheel bolts (30 Nm) with the wheel
hanging freely, starting with the lower bolts ( 10 ) and
finishing with the upper bolts ( 11 ).
Remove pedal press .
WARNING
To avoid loss of the balancing weights, use only
weights appropriate for the wheels on the vehi-
cle.
III - REFITTING THE VEHICLE WHEELS
Refit the wheel onto the vehicle in the same position
it was removed with the valve at the top.
