Uzupełnij zdania dotyczące Nowej Zelandii (8pkt)

About 1,500 kilometres to the south east of Australia lies New Zealand, one of

the most beautiful – and unpolluted – countries in the world. It includes two

large islands, the North Island and the South Island, and a number of smaller

islands. Although it can be very warm in the north with a subtropical climate,

the south of the country, which is close to the Antarctic, is much colder. New Zealand

has a lot in common with its neighbour Australia. For the size of the country,

it has a rather small population (about 3.7 million). Like Australia, it is multi-ethnic,

with immigrants from all over Europe and Asia. Also like Australia, the national

language is English and the head of state is the British monarch. But the original

inhabitants of New Zealand, the Maori, are very different from the Australian

aborigines. They arrived in small boats from the Pacific island of Thaiti about 1,200

years ago. When the British arrived 1,000 years later they took land from the Maori inhabitants, and the result was a long war between the Maori and the British. More than 100 years later, in 1995, the New Zealand government tried to say sorry. It gave back a lot of land, and paid money to the Maori tribes. Today, about ten per cent of the population is Maori; a third of them still speak the Maori language, as well as English.

a)  The South Island is .............................. than the North Island.

b)  .............................. people live in New Zealand.

c)  There are immigrants from Europe and .............................. .

d)  The official language is .............................. .

e)  The original inhabitants came from .............................. .

f)  A thousand years later people arrived in New Zealand from .............................. .

g)  They took a lot of .............................. from the Maori.

h)      .............................. of the Maori do not speak the Maori language.
